Job Purpose

To provide high quality research, analysis and thought partnership to the UK Construction business.

  • Broad understanding of the construction sector and the various sub segments of the sector


  • Familiarity with business models prevalent in the sector


  • Familiarity with the value chain of the sector and the inherent risks within the sub segments


  • Broad familiarity with different classes of risks, lines of business, and insurance products available to protect against risks


  • Broad understanding of financial statement analysis- able to read and interpret financial statements, perform basic financial analysis


  • Ability to link knowledge of global political, economic, social, technological and regulatory environment to business performance


  • Good knowledge of databases like Bloomberg and Factiva and free sources such as IMF/World bank databases

Delivery Management
  • Leverages research and problem solving skills to frame a sharp scope of research projects and estimates timelines accurately


  • Combines construction sector knowledge, knowledge of various data/information sources and strategic frameworks to collect information relevant to answer the stakeholder request


  • Uses strong written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office tools, specifically MS Word and Powerpoint to synthesize research into a logical as well as well designed output


  • Contributes proactively to knowledge development by identifying themes and writing points of view, blogs, chatter posts etc.


  • Manages projects effectively through strong planning, creating realistic plans with periodic checkpoints for self and any team member partnering on a project


  • Develops construction sector knowledge by studying market intelligence on emerging trends, established risk classes and overall building a strong understanding of the construction value chain and the various classes of risks within those

Stakeholder Management
  • Develops strong relationships with stakeholders through high quality research, responsiveness and agile and clear communication


  • Problem solves with stakeholders on developing a strategic research agenda to meet business needs

Coaching
  • Coaches Analysts and peers through on the job coaching and participation in team knowledge sharing forums, on sector dynamics and research skills

BS/MS from a well accredited university

Experience

Essential:
  • Experience in researching on construction topics such as company research, sector research or regional research


  • Between 2 to 6 years of experience in industry/country/business/market research with in-depth knowledge of global marketplace, key trends, economic and geo-political developments, global supply chain, and key business and financial risks.


  • Experience of working with a UK/US based insurance/re-insurance/insurance broking/consulting firm of global repute will be looked at preferably


  • Desirable:
  • Focused, substantial experience in researching and analysing the UK construction sector, understanding of the structure of the Construction sector- the market segments, value chain, business model, and risks

    Knowledge

    Essential:

    Good understanding of one or more sub sectors/topics covered by the Construction sector in one geography, including key players, risks and market opinion on trends in the sector(s)

    Desirable:

    Expert knowledge of one or more sub sectors covered by the UK Construction business
